Looking Forward To Baby -- 5 Baby Must Haves
Buying for a new baby can be a daunting task, especially when you think of all the stuff you will need. From car seats and strollers to diapers and wipes, you will be buying so many different things to make life with baby as comfortable as possible. Whether this is your first baby or your third, it is easy to misjudge how much you will need of certain items. No one wants to be up in the middle of the night ordering next day delivery from Amazon!
There are certain things that you will want to make sure you have more than just a few of. Here is a list of the essentials you will need for baby.
Sheets: Whatever your baby sleeps in, you will need sheets for the mattress. Most of us think to ourselves that 2 or 3 is enough, you know one on the bed, one in the laundry and one in the closet. Nope! You will need many more, especially with a newborn as they can go through multiple sheets a night! We recommend 5-10 sheets for the baby’s bed.
Changing Pads: A newborn needs a diaper change anywhere from 10-15 a day! During those changes your baby will, more often than you think, poop and or pee on the changing table while their diaper is off. You’re going to want to protect the surface you are changing the baby on, whether it be a special mat you have, a changing table, the bed or even the floor. You also are likely not going to want to go into your baby’s room every time they need a diaper change, so it’s a good idea to keep extra pads, diapers and wipes in the main parts of your house. It is also a great idea to keep and extra set in your car, as you don’t always want to use the public changing area in restrooms. Having a few different kinds and sizes of changing pads is a great idea because you never know what kind you may need. We recommend 7-15 changing pads.
Swaddle Blankets: Wrapping up your baby will not only keep them warm, but it also helps keep them calm. There are so many ways to wrap your baby. It is also a good idea to have many different kinds of these types of blankets. As you can tell by now, these cute little babies can be very messy. These swaddle blankets will get everything from spit up to poop on them so you the more you have clean, the better for you. We recommend 10-15 swaddle blankets and about 3-5 of each kind.
Burp Cloths: Burp clothes are the barrier between you and your baby’s messiness. You will be wearing these over you shoulder as your newest fashion accessory. You might also add one to your lap while sitting with baby. They some how get spit up everywhere! There are many kinds of these, too. Some people use wash clothes, others like to use cloth diapers. Whatever your preference is, make sure you have a ton on hand. We recommend you have between 20 and 30.
Pajamas: One of the best things about a new baby is all the fun clothing you will end up buying or being gifted. Everyone loves to dress up the new baby, but most of the outfits you will get will be impractical. You will be spending most of your time at home for the first couple months. And let’s face it, being home in your pajamas is a comfortable way to spend a few days. Babies are also very messy, so you will be going through a lot of pajamas. We recommend 15-20 pairs on pajamas.
