My Favorite Things About Being a Surrogate

Surrogacy is an adventure, it has many ups and downs, but the end goal is always worth it. The relationships I made along the way are my favorite part of the journey. Looking back at the struggles I had to get through only made me stronger. Putting my children through this journey with me was a very hard choice but after both journies, my kids saw how to be the good in the world and make someone truly happy. Getting updates about the families has been extremely rewarding.

Creating a family is the main goal of surrogacy. Meeting the intended parents is one key memory I have from both of my journeys. Like any relationship, it took work and time to get to know each other. Getting to know each other was very enjoyable.

There will be tears and emotions that come with the journey of surrogacy. In any type of journey, there are going to be struggles. The struggles with surrogacy are very unique. There are struggles that only you as a surrogate can feel. Waking up every day to be only more tired and bigger but still having to take care of your own children can be a bit of a struggle. Going to doctors’ appointments alone when your intended parents are in a different state is something that kind of makes you feel alone. Dealing with all these struggles was worth it for the end goal.

When I first started surrogacy, I wanted of course to help a family and I knew this was going to be a family effort. I am my kid’s caretaker, I am the person who keeps them alive. So being pregnant also means mom is going to slow down. They are going to see mommy’s belly get bigger but we are not going to bring the baby home. So, I wanted them to see that the end goal of helping mommy when she is tired is making a family extremely happy. It taught them that if you have the power to make someone happy then do it.

My final favorite goal now is I get to help women help other people by working in the surrogacy industry. I love seeing and talking to them from the first phone call to seeing the pictures of them in the hospital holding the baby they had for someone else. I’m so happy surrogacy is a part of my life.
